Tattoo Aftercare
Tattoo aftercare is just as important as the tattoo itself.
Your tattoo is an open wound, and proper aftercare is what allows it to heal correctly, retain its color, and stay crisp over time. Skipping steps or cutting corners can lead to fading, scabbing, patchy ink, or even infection. Following aftercare instructions protects both your skin and the artwork, ensuring your tattoo heals beautifully and looks its best for years to come.
-
💚 TATTOO AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS (STANDARD)
⏳ First 2 Hours
- Keep plastic wrap on for up to 2 hours
- Remove wrap, then clean the tattoo gently
🩹 Critical Healing Period:
First 2 Weeks
The first 2 weeks are crucial for proper healing. Follow these guidelines closely.
🧼 Cleaning & Moisturizing
- Wash tattoo with fragrance-free soap
- Dry using a clean disposable towel (do not reuse towels)
- Apply a thin layer of approved ointment:
- Aquaphor
- Mad Rabbit
- Or other artist-approved ointment
⚠️ Important:
- Use only a small amount of ointment
- Too much ointment can pull ink out and cause healing issues
🧴 Daily Care
- Clean tattoo before each application
- Apply ointment or lotion 2–3 times per day
- After the first week, you may switch to a fragrance-free lotion
🚫 What NOT to Do
- Do NOT submerge tattoo in:
- Baths
- Hot tubs
- Pools
- Rivers, lakes, or oceans
- Do NOT itch, pick, or scratch
- Avoid direct sunlight
☀️ Long-Term Care
- Once fully healed:
- Apply lotion regularly
- Use sunscreen to protect vibrancy and longevity
-
💚 TATTOO AFTERCARE WITH SECOND SKIN (DERMAL BANDAGE)
Second Skin aftercare follows the same healing principles with a few added steps.
⏳ First 24 Hours
- A second piece of Second Skin may be applied within the first 24 hours if needed
- If the bandage:
- Leaks
- Lifts
- Exposes the tattoo
👉 Remove it immediately to prevent bacteria from entering
🩹 Wearing Second Skin
- Second Skin may stay on for up to 6 days from the day of your tattoo
- You may remove it earlier if you choose
🩸 Plasma buildup is normal
- The bandage may fill with plasma, ink, and fluid
- Some tattoos produce more than others — this is completely normal
🚿 Removing Second Skin
- Remove slowly under running water
- Do not rip or pull dry
🧼 After Removal
Once Second Skin is off:
- Clean tattoo with fragrance-free soap
- Dry with a disposable towel
- Apply a thin layer of:
- Approved ointment or
- Fragrance-free lotion
- Continue with standard aftercare instructions
